News just broke yesterday about possible new TMNT games on the DS and now we have official word on what the game will be. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack is coming to the Nintendo DS. Arcade Attack is a modernized take on the classic arcade games and appears to have been developed at the same time as the Xbox Turtles in Time Re-Shelled game. Definitely looks cool and you can already preorder it on Amazon.

If you haven’t bought the new Xbox Live TMNT game, then this one might be more for you. It’s a full game. The game will apparently stick close to the source material, borrowing heavily from the original comic books, the recent animated film and cartoon series. Check out a couple screen shots…
Word is Turtles in Time Re-Shelled will also be coming out for the DS soon. No official confirmation if it’ll be released as a game or just a DSi download. However we do know that Arcade Attack is coming this holiday season and will be a DS cartridge. Looks like it could be some fun TMNT action on the go.
You can preorder the game here: Amazon Preorder

I must say I am a bit disappointed that the game is 3D. I would have preferred the game in 2D with a set up like the Konami arcade games or traditional side scroll.

  • I believe it’s really just 2.5D where it still moves generally like a traditional 2D sidescroller.

It likely does still play like a 2D game, though I want 2D visuals as well. Certain styles of games I think look better in 2D. Fighting, beat-up, and platform games are three such genres. I found the visual style to be one of the things that ruined Street Fighter IV (Along with character selection and various other factors), while KOF XII is visually pleasing and fun to play. Though, I mostly play JRPG’s and like them in both 2D and 3D.

There’s only one relevant question here: is there a level where you have to defuse bombs underwater? Because I’m still traumatized after all these years.

I remember my mom had to comfort me after I kept blowing up or electrocuting my turtles on that underwater stage. It was a bad experience xD

And seriously, what the hell kind of plant ELECTROCUTES turtles!? It just looked like regular seaweed! Ok, well, it was RED seaweed, I guess that answers it.

  • Michael says:

heh.. I got pretty good at the underwater (Hudson River) stage. I actually have finished that game, without a Game Genie.

  • DrNightmare says:

That’s impossible! No one escapes the Technodrome! 😛

I got to Shredder once. ONCE. It took me like 6 hours to get there, fighting a badly-loaded cartridge that would reset randomly, yelling back at my parents to leave me alone because I didn’t want to eat or sleep or shower. ONCE. And he completely destroyed my turtles with one smack each. Dammit.

I was never able to beat the water level everrrr I didn’t get to see the Tecnodrome =( this game could be great though.

Looks like fun. I loved the oldschool TMNT games. DS is a good fit for it. I also liked the old Gameboy TMNT games. man the old Gameboy anything games used to rule.
