Just recently I discovered a website called Microsoft Hohm. I wasn’t sure what to make of it at first, but since I’m constantly looking to become more environmentally friendly it seemed like a worthwhile place to check out. It’s ran by the folks at Microsoft with the intuitive to help you get energy saving tips as well as reduce your own personal effect on the environment. Surprisingly I found the site very easy to navigate and a lot of informative information was right there for the taking. If you’re looking for Energy saving tips, this could be a great place to start.

One of the first things you’ll notice with the site is that you can log in with your pre-existing Microsoft Live name and password. If you don’t have one of these, it’s easy to sign up as well. Honestly though, I think pretty much everyone has a Live name and account these days. I really enjoyed that it was linked to my overall Live experience.

Once inside you enter in various information about your local area, your home, things you have around the house like electronics and such. Then the Hohm service can show you a lot of waves to save on energy costs as well as make your household more “green” than it was before. It’s amazing the discounts that are shown throughout and the service can really save you a bundle if you take some of their money saving tips.

THey even have lots of pie charts, bar graphs and monetary information to give you a layout of just how much potentially cost saving changes you could make around the home. If you’re even remotely environmentally conscious then you definitely will enjoy the benefits here.

Hohm offers a home appliances library and shows you various ways to cut down on power usage. It’s all specifically tailored to your house so you get a customized home energy report and energy-saving recommendations based on your specifics. It’s really quite useful.

Some of the tips are really simple, but stuff like “Lower the temperature setting on your water heater” and “Have your ducts professionally sealed” can literally save you over a hundred dollars a year annually.
