The fine folks at Cortes Studio have put out some great new images of the classic TMNT figures from Playmates. Although this is only one sculpt, it gives you an idea of just how awesome these figures are going to be. I believe these are the best photos to surface to date.

You get a nice 360 degree view of Raphael. Although Raph is my least favorite turtle, he looks absolutely amazing in this vintage inspired figure.

These figures are a bit of an amalgamation of the vintage figures, classic 80’s artwork and style guides as well as the vintage Fred Wolf cartoon. Personally I think this is just incredible and a great way to cover all the bases. Playmates has done an astounding job here.

Of course, this is the prototype, so I’m sure the final version will be slightly less detailed in the paint department. Hopefully all the articulation remains, though.

If you’re like me, this is the toy line I’m most looking forward to this year. In fact, I’m ready to go ahead and commit to quitting everything else if this toy line expands to the areas I want it to. It’s that good.

Hell I think you’d be hard pressed to find anyone that would argue that this COULD be the toy line of the year… Assuming Playmates doesn’t bungle it up somehow. I have faith in them.

Of course I’m saying a million little prayers too.

He’s cool but rude.

I was loudly critical of the Toy Fair prototype they showed, the eyes looked weird to me, and the washes were too shiny. These pictures put all those criticisms to bed. I am now EAGERLY anticipating these (Raphael is actually my favorite) and I'm way on board. These pictures look great. When Playmates actually put effort into a toy line, they're the best.

Raphael is also my favorite, and these photos make him looks awesome. However, unlike you I don't have faith in playmates. We've already seen the vast difference between prototypes and production figures when it came to the regular 4" figures. I fear we will have the same issues between in this line as well.

Let's just all cross fingers, and be patient. Really looking forward to these…

these are incredible figures. i like these better than the neca versions because these look more playable and accessible to the public. what im betting is that since playmates is well known t the brick and mortar stores, we'll see lots on the pegs- but scalpers will go out and hoard as much as they can. the good side is there will be lots of them. i cant wait!

Since Playmates hasn't really done collector-specific toys before (to my knowledge), I don't expect the paintjobs to be this nice. I'm expecting more in the range of the new Thundercats Classics. But even if they are, the sculpts are beautiful and brightly colored paintjobs will looks just like the old animation models anyway. I'm in for these for sure!

I was really on the fence with these, but now, barring any in-hand horrors, I'm no longer on the fence. My poor wallet…

    Great scoop Newt, BTW.

Simpsons wasn't exactly high-articulation, but I would say they were firmly made with collectors in mind. Can't say that line would be an indication of QC on multi-part figures either. BUT The Simpsons World of Springfield line was a massive success (for a time).

  • oansun says:

but I do know what you mean.

  • wesitron says:

I didn't realize they did the Simpsons line, good call

  • Thanks man.

  • I am looking forward to it myself. The 2002 TMNT line is what got me back into toy collecting.

  • BubbaShelby says:

Playmates has one thing going for them (and us) – they aren't Mattel!

These pics have me even more excited for this line now! If I only get one, I'm getting Raph (my fave turtle!)

  • wesitron says:

    Leo FTW

  • Tommy says:

Wow, so glad I found this post. I am ridiculously pumped about this toy line. I hope they're not too hard to find, or too expensive, because I just might have to buy two of each figure. They look that good.

  • Supes says:

Incredible! Any update on this post, when are we going to see these new TMNT figures at retail?

  • No word on a release date to retail yet, though one would assume closer to August. I'll have a review up of Classic Collection Mikey this week though, so be on the lookout.
