The single coolest item revealed at SDCC 2011 in my estimation was the “Mini-Masters” at the Mattel booth. For those that don’t know, these items were sort of in the style of the DC Action League/WWE Rumblers, but were much more advanced in style and scope. There’s a reason for that… These figures were not done in house by Mattel, but instead were a pet project from the Four Horsemen. They want to do these figures and pitched them to Mattel and the fans at SDCC!

What makes these guys stand out from the largely unarticulated other mini figures out there on the market is the beautiful sculpting, the removable weapons and the articulation! Yes, the Horsemen have packed in ball joint shoulders, ball & socket head, swivel wrists & swivel waist. That leaves these little desktop sized warriors able to hit all kinds of neat poses and battle it out in any small space!

Just look at how awesome that Scareglow is! You’d never take your MOTUC figures to the office or give them to your kids, but these little versions are perfect for that. Come on guys, the Horsemen want these figures made and so do I!

So just like fan demand got MOTUC started several years ago, let’s get some fan demand going and get the Mini-Masters made!

Man I love these. I was hoping they were already announced as legit. Mattel definitely needs to make these dudes.

  • Newt says:

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. You could easily do a mini Castle Greyskull and stuff as well. Mattel could do lots of things with this mini line, that they aren't able to do with the larger MOTUC line. It could be a lot of fun.

  • wesitron says:

I would LOVE these at retail. Mattycollector would be a bit tougher. 10 bucks for a twopack plus maybe 7 or 8 bucks shipping is pushing it. 8 bucks at retail would be amazing. Either way, I could see picking up at least a few sets of these. Too awesome.

  • DeaDPooLx97 says:

These are SO cool! BTW, is that Moss Man
flocked? I would so pick up Scareglow!

  • Joseph Tages says:

Those are great. The 4H can work their magic at any size range! Mattel needs to get cracking on production right away.

  • Newt says:

Yup Mossman is flocked! I need these guys just to have a mini flocked Mossman!

  • Newt says:

I agree they would be better at retail, maybe a TRU exclusive? But even if not, I think so long as they sold on Matty the same day as everything else I wouldn't mind bundling them in shipping. I just really want them. I can see these being my main MOTU addiction. I never get to fiddle around with my MOTUC guys, but these guys I could all the time.

  • Newt says:

    Amen brother!

  • wesitron says:

I had to stop buying most Mattycollector stuff, but I agree this is a whole new addiction and I might not be able to resist its wares. I kind of NEED that Moss Man 🙂

  • jestergoblin says:

As resident-obsessed with tiny toys-guy, I need these. I do think the arms are SLIGHTLY too big.

Also, the articulation is the same as the new Action League Batman figure: http://jestergoblin.com/?p=8492

  • Newt says:

Yeah but that figure is still preposed and only has ball shoulders… The Mini-Masters have ball shoulders, ball necks and swivel wrists in addition to the normal cuts. Plus their weapons are removable and less preposededness about them. These are clearly designed to have one version per character, whereas obviously the others are designed for multiple releases of Batman, etc.

  • Zach S. says:

These are amazing…I seriously hope they make them. If they do, I imagine the ball-joint shoulders and ball-joint head would get scrapped for cut joints.

  • Newt says:

I hope not, the ball joints are part of the charm for me!

  • Zach S. says:

Me too…who knows with Mattel though. Also wanted to point out, these little guys have so much character in their expressions. The 4H are awesome. Merman's expression is priceless.

  • Mecha-Shiva says:

I moved away from MOTUC since they are too big and so many of them it's hard to mess around with them in gigantic battles, these would do nicely!

  • clark says:

These are my favorite thing to come out of SDCC this year. I've been cherry-picking MOTUC like crazy over the last year; however, I could see myself getting any of these little guys that are released. Of course, knowing Mattel they will drastically underestimate the demand, we'll be back to 2 minute sell-outs, and I'll completely lose interest after a couple of months because I don't want to deal with Digital River's BS.

  • Mario says:

I'd buy 'em. Mattel, I already buy 3 of your subs, & bought your now defunct (sigh) retro-action line, so please, make 'em.

  • A_Spidey_Fan says:

I would so get these if they ever showed up in Retail. Like the fact that they have some joints, while still retainning the Super Deform look(Similar to some of the Playmates TMNT Mini Mutants line back in 2008), which is why I never go into the DC and Marvel theme ones(Though I will admit that those do look cool still). I seriously hope if these every come true, that they don't end up as a Matty Club Exclusive, cause there is no way I'm ever going to buy from Matty(I don't care if they have some really cool stuff).

I recalled recently that I read on the TNI website, that Mattel considered the MOTU V.S. DC 2 packs as a failure in Retail, and that they aren't going to make any more(To be fair though, these sets were a TRU Exclusive so it wasn't a mass retail release, and worst, the price of these 2 packs were really hard on many people's wallets). I think these could be a good test to see if there is any strong MOTU interest in retail, since they are smaller(Meaning more stock to put on the walls), potentional for playsets and vechiles for this scale, and these in theory should be in a good price point due to their size(Like all the other similar SD lines).

  • A_Spidey_Fan says:

The affordable price point would defently be good for many collectors, kids, and parents wallets. But if Mattel ups the price to something very high(As it appears on some of their items, due to reports on the U.S. price of Young Justice toys), then exptect this line to die before it can even take off.
