Every year the folks who collect Mego meet up for their own little convention in Wheeling, West Virginia. It’s much, much smaller than most any other convention out there and is closer akin to a forum meet-up, which is where it’s garnered it’s name, Mego Meet. It’s a great place to chat about toys, remember the old times and buy plenty of Megos. Despite being a smaller get together, they never fail to pull out all the stops. Each year there are customs, special figures and plenty of neat stuff for attendees to enjoy.

One of the special items that will be available this year is a Universal Monsters Wolfman, made by a guy name Ed. He’s got only 20 of these to sell and he hand made each one. Pretty impressive. Perhaps even cooler is the nifty in package display he made, where the Wolfman is howling at the moon. It’s really, incredible.

These aren’t officially licensed products and you’re only paying Ed for the custom he’s made. Still, it would be awesome to have one of these. If you’re interested, you have to attend the Mego Meet and there’s more information at their official website. Admission is only $20 and that includes free admission for spouses and kids! Apparently there will also be an OFFICIAL Mego Meet exclusive figure, which is an annual tradition available as well. It hasn’t been revealed yet, but is sure to be a hit. If you’re in the area, I suggest you check it out. I’m not sure how much he’ll be charging for the Wolfman at the show, but with only 20, you know they’ll fetch a pretty penny and certainly go fast.

If you’re a big Wolfman/Mego fan though and would like a Mego-style Wolfman, all hope is not lost. This October EMCE Toys and Universal have teamed up with Diamond Select to bring out an official Mego-esque Wolfman. It looks very cool (though perhaps not as cool as the custom) and will run you about $18. I don’t think I’m going to be at the Mego Meet, so this EMCE version will have to tide me over. Either way, it’s a good time to be fans of the howlin’ wolf!
