Spiderman Mega Blocks

Marvel Mega Bloks – Series 1
Spider-Man, Green Goblin, War Machine
2 Inch Scale
By: Mega Bloks

I bought these blind bag Marvel Mega Bloks, what seems like ages ago. I figured I might as well get around to reviewing them. As mini figures go, I quite like these. They have the identifiable characteristics of each Marvel hero/villain and they have a fair amount of articulation. I’m not sure if Mega Bloks is going to continue on with these series, but they are a lot of fun.

War Machine
Although they’re blind bagged, I was able to feel around and get the characters that I wanted. I believe there may be codes for these somewhere, but I can’t say for sure. Feeling around seemed to work pretty well and I was really happy to score the Green Goblin as he’s one of my favorites. I can only hope that they eventually release a Hobgoblin figure.

The packaging is your standard blind bag mini figure style wrapper. There’s nothing of note here except that it’s a bit bland. The ??? figure makes it appear as though there is another figure in the series, but I believe that is actually just there to indicate that you don’t know which figure you will get.

Inside there’s some instructions and a checklist of the figures in Series 1.

These guys have to be assembled when you get them out of the package.

For the most part they’re pretty easy to snap together.

Each character has a unique design, although I suspect Spider-Man’s body is reused on other heroes. There’s a fair amount of sculpting on each one. The paint and tampo work on Spider-Man is actually quite good, considering how small he is.

All three characters are immediately recognizable as who they’re supposed to be. These look a lot more like literal interpretations of the characters. Some mini figures are more stylized, but these just sort of look like smushed versions of the real thing.

War Machine has a lot sculpted detail on his body.

My Green Goblin has kind of wonky eye paint, but I’m not sure if that’s intentional or not. It works well enough for a crazy character.

All of the figures have a hole in their back for backpacks and accessories. Similar to vintage 3 3/4 GI Joes!

The articulation blows the Lego mini figures out of the water. You have ball jointed arms, legs and head. The head doesn’t have a ton of movement, but it’s there. You also have a cut waist, cut wrists and hinges at the elbows and knees.

It allows for a lot of posing that just isn’t possible with many figures of the ilk.

That makes them seem a lot more like action figures to me. They are a bit fragile feeling, but I haven’t had any issues with breakage thus far. I suspect smaller children would enjoy these guys over a lot of the other options out there.

Mini figures tend to either come with nothing or quite a few things. Thankfully the Marvel Mega Bloks come with lots of goodies.

First, each figure comes with a brick stand.

War Machine also has his guns, which are detachable.

Spider-man has some blue “webbing” that can be placed in his hand like it’s shooting out.

He also has a blue web shield that can be worn on his back or in his hand.

Spidey also has a red brick stand.

Green Goblin is the real winner as he comes with his glider (which helps to find him in the package as well) and it has nice little foot pegs for him to fit on it.

He also comes with a pumpkin bomb.

The bomb actually has a special sculpt to allow him to hold it.

Finally, he has the satchel and the brick stand.

Decent sculpts, loads of accessories, more articulation than almost any other mini figure and it’s got a decent price tag? In the world of mini figures, Mega Bloks is king when it comes to value. These Marvel Mega Bloks are a lot of fun. The first series is one of the best, as some of the later series have less interesting characters. Even so, these are a solid pick up for kids and collectors alike.

If you’re in the market for some fun desktop toys or something to occupy the kids on a long travel, I definitely recommend these Marvel Mega Bloks mini figures. Getting a few of these guys really made me appreciate just how good the Mega Bloks figures are. Don’t overlook these guys as just cheap Lego knockoffs, as they really pack a punch!
