Has it come to this? Yes, yes it has. Today I am reviewing a Little Debbie snack cake. I would assume that most everyone has eaten a Little Debbie of some sort, but until about a week ago I had never even heard of Little Debbie Cherry Cordials. What are they? Well according to the official website, they’re two vanilla cookies with naturally flavored cherry creme in between and coated in fudge.
For a $1.79, Little Debbie will love you long time. Chances are that long time will be the extra pounds you pack on, but that’s a small price to pay for eight edible kisses from heaven. A quick look at the ingredients brings us this interesting bit of information:

Ingredients: corn syrup, enriched bleached flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate [vitamin B1], riboflavin [vitamin B2], folic acid), sugar, partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil with TBHQ to preserve flavor, water, dextrose, palm and palm kernel oil, cocoa, whey (milk), salt, emulsifiers (soy lecithin, sorbitan monostearate, polysorbate 60, mono- and diglycerides), leavening (baking soda, ammonium bicarbonate, sodium aluminum phosphate), corn starch, natural and artificial flavors, eggs, colors (red 40 lake, turmeric, annatto extract, beta carotene), sorbic acid (to retain freshness), modified corn starch, egg whites.
Although they are “naturally flavored” it would appear that cherries are not on that list of natural flavors. Yes the lack of cherries in the Cherry Cordials could spoil the fun for some folks. Not that it matters, I mean, Taco Bell doesn’t even have beef in their meat, right? Let’s not let the minor details get in the way of a good gobble. The important part is to highlight how damn good these things taste.
That my friends, is damn good indeed. Each individual Cherry Cordial is about three bites (unless you’re a pig or Cookie Monster) and each bite is better than the next. The cherry flavoring isn’t overpowering, but it’s the subtle hint of cherry that puts this far above most of Little Debbie’s snack cake offerings.
Don’t be fooled into thinking these taste anything like Chocolate Covered Cherry Cordials, or even a basic Little Debbie snack cake. These have their own flavor, but they’re quite tasty. Must be the partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil with TBHQ. I’m told these are mostly seasonal items and this was in a Little Debbie Valentine’s display. There is even a special Valentine’s Day package, although my local grocer didn’t seem to have any of those.
Let’s be honest though… If you give a girl a box of Little Debbie cakes, she’s not going to give you any kisses (much less anything else) this February 14th. Skip the Cupid nonsense and buy yourself a box of these tasty treats. Make Little Debbie be your special Valentine. Then scarf them down and hope you can find a lady who doesn’t mind your ever growing glutton.
