As much as I love Christmas, at the end of the day I know Christmas is for kids. Every year I try to give a little to several charities and this year I’ve already donated a few times to places like Toys for Tots. I know that I’m pretty lucky to be able to afford all the things I want. I also know that there are lots of kids out there who won’t have as good for a Christmas as I will, or as good of a Christmas as I had at their age. This year I’m part of my GF’s Mom’s Church angel tree. Basically you get to pick a kid or a family and buy them Christmas gifts.

Our little boy is like 8 or 9, so I tried to get him a cool mix of toys. For starters I got him a Batman along with a Joker and Two-Face. It’s always good to have some villains. These are cool figures, I own them myself. Batman was always a big part of my Christmas as a kid and instead of this being a particular version of Batman, it’s the animated form which I think is classic.

I also got him plenty of GI Joes, with a set of basic Joe troopers versus Firefly and then a comic pack with Destro versus Breaker. It may not be the most iconic of GI Joe toys, but I think it’s a good start. Plus the comic is a good one that’ll get him interested in the Joe mythos.

Finally we have some candy, because who doesn’t love candy? And some Hot Wheels cars. I never was a big car guy, but I do remember when I was younger that cars were cool. I remember one Christmas getting some color change cars and thinking they were the coolest things ever. Plus these cars a pretty neat, one looks a bit like the 1960’s Batmobile and the other one is a SHARK! How cool is that?

Of course in addition to these toys we got him a coat, some pajamas and a few things of clothes. Stuff that the kid probably doesn’t want, but no doubt needs. It’s just a little bit, but I hope that it helps. If in any way this makes this kid’s Christmas better than I’m thankful for it. If you’d like to play the role of Santa and help a child in need, you can donate to Toys for Tots or contact a local church to see if they take donations for an Angel tree. Even if you’re on a limited budget a couple of GI Joes could go a long way. It’s not too late and you don’t even have to be a part of that church (or even that religion!) to help out. Just get in contact and help make a kid’s Christmas brighter this year, because I think you’ll find it’ll help make your Christmas brighter too.
