First time Trying a figure review. Newt said he didn’t have one of these guys yet, so I figured I would see if I could do the crew proud.

Doctor Who (Modern)
11th Doctor with Fez
5 Inch Scale
By: Character Options
$12

It’s no surprise that most of the people who read this site love Doctor Who. The new series is a lot of fun, and even if you are not a huge fan of the 11th doctor, it is nice to see a steady stream of new Who merchandise on the market.

Taken from the season finale, the Doctor here is presented complete with Mop and Fez, and is ready for action.

Packaging:
The Doctor comes in the new display box format that all of the 11th Doctor figures are being displayed in. I’m not a huge fan of these new boxes. Personally I liked what they did for the last two Doctor lines, with the Tardis shaped blister, but these windows are nice and show all of the characters and accessories well, so I can’t complain too much.

All of the figures in this release come with an audio CD, which can be placed together to form your very own Pandorica. To highlight this, the back of the box is a big display of the completed Pandorica, but does not have any info about the character to speak of. Of course, if you a purchasing an action figure whose. Accessories include a mop and a sonic screw driver, I guess the odds are you already know who you are getting.

Sculpt:
Mr. Smith is here in all of his bow tie glory. This is the outfit he wears in the season finale, and to be honest, like almost all of the recent Who figures, the sculpt is pretty good. This figure has been very carefully crafted right down to the Doctor’s bow tie.

This figure has a fairly good sculpt. Obviously they have used the previous release of the doctor for the body, but this is a brand new head sculpt to incorporate the fez, and overall it looks pretty good. There is a bit of slop between the face and the hair, but it was very slight, and I didn’t see any between the fez and the hair

Speaking of bow ties, I know it’s a little thing, but I do like that the bow tie on this figure is not just painted on, but actually something that is sculpted and attached. It’s little details like that which really have impressed me in this new Who line.

Articulation:
As figures go this one is fairly flexible. The each arm has 4 points of articulation counting shoulder and wrist. Mine did have a bit of a loose point on the left arm, but nothing that would be a serious problem. Still, it is annoying, and consider that these are meant to be played with it is a bit worrisome about how thin the joint is for this. Still, it’s a minor point and one which shouldn’t be an issue with every figure.

The Doctor’s neck and waist pivot with little trouble, and his knee and hip joints turned smoothly as well. His jacket does prohibit how far you can spread his legs out, but really, unless you’re Karen Gillan why would you?

Accessories:
This figure is actually fairly stocked with stuff. The Doctor comes with the aforementioned Pandorica piece, his trust Sonic Screw Driver, and the comedic mop. All are well crafted and fit easily into his hands, but there is a small problem. When the holding the mop and sonic, it becomes fairly difficult to get him to stand upright. Also, because of how they have shaped his hands, he can hold the mop with both, but only his right hand can hold the sonic. It would have been nice if they could have worked it so he could hold the mop better while standing and hold the sonic for display purposes too.

Value:
Like most Who stuff in the US I had to purchase through online sources. This figure only ran me about 11 bucks before shipping, and there are lots of them going for less on Ebay right now. I liked the figure so much I bought two, and did not feel myself ill used for the purchase.

Score Recap:
Packaging: 8
Sculpting: 9
Paint: 8
Articulation: 8
Value: 9
Overall: 8.5

My Verdict:
If you don’t have an 11th doctor figure yet this one is cool and very well done. It is definitely something that would look good on display, and the fez addition only adds to the interest (unlike some other recent Who variants. I’m looking at you Colin Baker regeneration figure. Who wants that one?!) so I would definitely recommend you pick this one up while it’s still on the cheap.

Love this line of figures, and would really like to have this version of the Doctor, but since CO have already forced me to to buy 3 versions of this guy, I will have to pass. At least, at this price. If the price drops in the future, I will snap it up.

BTW, the head isn't the only thing they resculpted. the entire jackets texture is resculpted and so is his right hand an entirely new sulpt.
