Here’s a first look at the Retro Action figures from Mattel and DC that get launched on December 15th on MattyCollector. Green Arrow is the first exclusive.

These are supposed to be like Megos and Doc Mego and EMCE toys worked with Mattel to have these made. The big news here would be that Batman is featured on the card. He has not yet been announced (though everyone expected he was coming) and that’s cool.

You can see that the card is slightly “weathered” to look old, but not too much. Looks pretty sharp.

I don't think it's just me in saying that that looks terribly unprofessional. Just because it's retro doesn't mean it has to lack real design and professionalism. I know the vintage Megos inside and out and this doesn't feel like the originals at all.
I endured Famous Covers and 9" DC Super Heroes waiting for a proper Mego revival. Sorry…while closer, this aint it.

Changing the name from "World's Greatest Superheroes" to just "Retro-Action Superheroes" REALLY hurts an already undesigned card. And they want people to pay $30.00 (after shipping) for one of these things? I'm looking forward to some serious mark downs…

I agree it looks half-assed. Not to mention that artwork is Garcia-Lopez from the 1982 style guide, and too new to really be appropriate if they're going for a real retro look.

I'll keep my original Megos that I bought for $1.99 each in the 70s, thanks.

  • Mike says:

ahh, all that REALLY matters is that they' re BACK…THEY'RE BACK! THEY'RE BACK! THEY'RE BACK!!!!! so so so SO cool! so cool! i'm not going to complain about ANYTHING about them!

  • Bill says:

Why is everyone so excited about these? Back in the day, we bought Megos because they were the only game in town, but they were always disappointing from a quality and likeness-to-the-character aspect. Remember how awful the Thing and the Human Torch looked?

I can understand the nostalgia factor, but with all the advances in toy manufacturing and all the beautiful figures being made today, stuff like this belongs in the history books.

Man these look awful!! Thank goodness my first foray into the action figure world was Star Wars and then MOTU, and subsequent 80's lines!! I was able to bypass the original crappy line!!! LOL!!

Looks like these are going to gather lots of mixed reactions. I lost the few Megos that I did have eons ago, plus I'm a huge nostalgia buff. So these are probably going to fly with me. I liked the Star Trek and Space: 1999 revisits as well.
