MTV Networks and it's Nickelodeon branch have bought the TMNT. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are no longer Mirage properties. The belief is currently that Mirage will disband entirely soon. This is not a rumor, Peter Laird confirmed the total sale of the TMNT earlier today.

This isn't like the sale of Marvel to Disney where nothing will change. This completely changed the landscape of the Ninja Turtles. This could be a good thing for a lot of Turtle fans as Mirage is a very small, very backwards company that never quite grasped how to market the turtles and often had issues distributing certain contracts.

On the flipside this is likely to be bad for fans of the "gritty" original style turtles as even the best Nickelodeon properties are ultimately still kids stuff. The implications will be vast and we'll just have to see what this means as they come about.
